First post here, but I've been lurking for a while. My company builds mobile applications for the media industry, and I'm in charge of product development. I'm not a programmer, but I have to be the voice of the customer, and understand how consumers will use our app on their devices. As part of that role, I have to use our app on a lot of different phones. On my nightstand now are two iPhone 5s, a Nokia Lumia 928, a Galaxy S4, a Nexus 4, a few more android devices (RAZR MAXX HD, Optimus G, Galaxy S3)...and a Blackberry Z10. When I'm not testing a specific app on a specific phone, I can carry whatever I want...I use google voice so all my phones ring from the same number.
A big part of how I use devices is multitasking - using GPS and podcasts in the car, for example, or calling someone while looking at a calendar or finding information on the web. As much as I love how gorgeous Windows Phone 8 is, swapping between apps is clumsy at best. And, some of the key apps, like music, are a bit fiddly; a lot of touching and swiping to get where you want to go. iPhone is...iPhone. the device itself is beautiful, but the keyboard and screen are small, email is less than optimal, and again, multitasking is more cumbersome than necessary. Android is a jack of all trades - good at a lot of things, but a master of none. Great keyboards, great apps, great screens...but moving between things was sometimes hard to do on the road, and I didn't like switching between all the different apps for my messaging.
As a result I've been gravitating towards the Z10 more and more. Once you start using the live tiles, you realize how powerful they are as a productivity tool; i keep my calendar and other apps open there, so i can move between things easily. the tiles are big enough that I never miss, and do something I didn't mean to. And the hub...once you use the hub, you wonder why you can't get your messages so easily on other devices. As a productivity tool, it's really fantastic.
Finally...little secret about the Z10...The camera is good. Really good. As in, compares favorably to my S4, Lumia 928, and iPhone 5 good. The new HDR and night mode settings are great, and have shockingly little noise in the photos. I find myself taking more and more pictures with the Z10, rather than reaching for the Lumia.
So, for those of you who might be doing some research, and wondering whether the Z10 is a good option for you...I can use any device on the market. When I have my choice of what to carry, I use a Z10.
