BlackBerry headphone ticking only on Z10

Have the BlackBerry headphones that came with device. Often when I plug it in, I get a periodic ticking noise, about 1 every 0.5 s or 2 ticks together, once a second. Usually seems to go away with a reboot I think. Oddly it seems to mess with video and audio playback. I mean more than just audio noise, it glitches or even stops the playback, but as soon as I yank the headset, no problems.

Same headset has no problems on Q10, Passport or Bold 9900. Also on the Z10, plain pair of Sony headphones has no issue.

Any ideas on this one?
